Simulation of the effect of stand-off parameter on collapse behaviours of a single cavitation bubble in jet drilling

Cavitation jet drilling has been extensively employed for the exploitation of geo-energy resources. The dynamics cavitation bubbles in close proximity to solid boundary have a subject great interest during drilling, as they play crucial role determining performance. In present work, single bubble near surface is numerically investigated by using axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations and volume fluid method with considering tension gas-liquid interface, liquid viscosity compressibility gas bubble. simulated profiles are qualitatively quantitatively consistent experimental images, which proves reliability numerical model. effects stand-off distance on profiles, collapse time analysed. Moreover, erosion patterns towards wall also revealed different dimensionless standoff distances. simulation results reveal two distinct profiles. significantly impedes shrinkage rate bubble, resulting longest when 1.0. Three observed, shock wave micro-jet both contributing damage caused erosion. sweeps circular corrosion pits severely eroded centre, while micro penetrates leading small spot pits.
